When you create a template, for a road other than CSXT, you will need to perform the following steps. You can still fill in as many details as possible. Only information that changes from shipment to shipment, like the bill of lading number, equipment initial and number, weights and seals, cannot be saved in a template.
Click the 'Templates' link in the main task bar at the top of any page in the shipping instructions tool and click on 'Create Intermodal Template'.

After clicking on “Skip this step” you will be taken to the “Create or Edit Template” page. Enter the name of the template. Choose a name that is specific and descriptive.
Fill in the template details. You will need to select which road to send your shipping instructions to, as well as indicating payment method, whether or not the shipment is Rule 11 and rail origin and rail destination. You can either type in the rail origin and destination or use the city/state lookup feature.
An inactive box (when the field is grayed out) means those details that must be different for each shipment. For example, the equipment initial and number is unique for each shipment and cannot be saved in a template.

Next you will select the roads and junctions (if needed) by clicking on the link for ‘Add Route Details’.
Once you click on that link you will be taken to the page that allows you to enter road, junctions and contract information. Select the road from the drop down and use the “Find Junction” link to find the junction where your shipment will interchange. (Please note: For CSXI routing, there will not be an interchange junction or a destination road.)

Next, enter the contract type (either AGRT or SPQ for CSX) and the number. For example, if you are using AGRT 1234, you would enter AGRT in the first box and 1234 in the second box. The third box is not used for any CSX agreements or SPQs. After entering the contract number information, select the Service Type Code.
Once you have entered the routing information click ‘Continue’ at the bottom of the page and you will be returned to the ‘create a template’ page.
You will now need to identify the rail shipping and rail consignee, as well as the freight payor. To do this, click the ‘Add Participant Details’ link.

This participant information comes from your selected contract or template. A participant is any party involved with your shipment. To add a participant type, use the 'Find' links to select valid information.
You only need to enter the Rail Shipper and Rail Consignee. You can do so by clicking on the ‘Find Rail Shipper’ link and selecting the location that corresponds to the rail origin of the shipment. Then click on the ‘Find Rail Consignee’ link and select the location that corresponds to the rail destination of the shipment. Always use the look-up tool for city and state, as it provides the most accurate information.

Next select the freight payor, again by using the lookup tools for accuracy. Finally enter your notify information (if it is the same from shipment to shipment on this particular move).
When you are finished click ‘Continue’ at the bottom to be returned to the ‘Create a Template’ page.
You will notice a checkmark next to the ‘Add Participant Details’. This indicates that you have participants other than those shown on the page now displayed.

Click if you would like to receive an e-mail copy (or send one to someone else) when shipping instructions using the template are submitted.

After the template details have been filled out, click 'Submit' to review details.
You can go back and edit a template at any time.
Review each section to make sure the details are correct. If there are corrections you need to make, click on the 'return to the Template form' link. When the template is correct, click 'Submit'.
Once you have saved your template, you can choose your next option from the confirmation page or click on a link in the main task bar.
