Create a Template from Scratch

When you create a template, fill in as many details as possible. Only information that changes from shipment to shipment, like the bill of lading number, equipment initial and number, weights and seals, cannot be saved in a template.

Template name and shipper (and for Intermodal shippers, contract ID) are required fields for a template. The other fields marked as required are to show you what is required on the actual shipping instructions form.

Go to the templates page
Click the 'Templates' link in the main task bar at the top of any page in shipping instructions.

Select 'Create New Template'

Name the template
Give the template a name that is specific and descriptive.

Fill in template details
Fill in the information that will be used repeatedly in the Shipment Details, Equipment, Weights & Seals, Commodity, Route, Participants, and Additional Information boxes.

If a field is gray, then the text box is inactive. That means those details that must be different for each shipment. For example, the BOL number is a unique number and cannot be saved in a template.

E-mail notification option
Click if you would like to receive an e-mail copy (or send one to someone else) when shipping instructions using the template are submitted.

Submit the template
After the template details have been filled out, click 'Submit' to review details.
You can go back and edit a template at any time.

Review the template details
Review each section to make sure the details are correct. If there are corrections you need to make, click on the 'return to the Template form' link. When the template is correct, click 'Submit'.

Select next option
Once you have saved your template, you can choose your next option from the confirmation page or click on a link in the main task bar.
